BRUCE RING|PHOTOGRAPHY

Ok, first things first: I am not a professional photographer. I am an avid amateur learning as much as I can by shooting, reading, looking at the work of others, and playing with processing my photos in Photoshop. I am a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, not because I am a “professional,” but to learn from the wealth of information on its website and to attend NAPP seminars (the discounts membership affords are great too).

A long time ago, when I was about 18 years old, my parents bought me a very basic Nikon film camera (a Nikkormat) and ignited in me what has been a life long love of photography. I studied photography for a semester in the early 70s at the Art Institute of San Francisco and later in the mid-70s took photography classes at the local community college. College at Cal, followed by law school, starting my career as an attorney and starting and having a family relegated me to the point and shoot world of simple film and then digital cameras for many years. It was finally in May of 2007, after seeing fellow travelers on bicycle trips carrying digital SLRs that I was inspired to buy the Nikon D200 with which I now shoot.

Fast forward - not that far really - to January of 2008 and I have caught the bug completely and I set up a home digital photo lab. My new tools are a high powered Mac, large format Epson printer and scanner, and a Netgear ReadyNas NV+ and away I go. Lots of books on Photoshop, lots of hours working on processing photos and here we are.

This website is my latest endeavor. Hosted on my NAS, and developed using a template in Apple’s iWeb. A bit pretentious, perhaps, for someone as much of a beginner as I, but, hey, I am just having an awful lot of fun and this is the next stage. I hope you enjoy looking at my photos, and welcome any feedback or advice. After all, life is for learning!

Cheers,

Bruce
